Boundary scan

With a ‘JTAG chain’ designed into the hardware, a Boundary Scan test is an extremely fast method of testing, debugging and programming even the most complex digital circuits. Boundary Scan is an innovation in testing boards containing complex ICs, that provides in-circuit levels of test coverage and diagnostics through access purely from the board edge. Special bus technology designed-in to most modern devices effectively sets thousands of test points to test components and interconnections, as well as detecting structural fault locations, even beneath BGAs, without mechanical access to the circuit.
